Stanton CA, Sheila Casteel visited the Stanton Lions Club.  She has been selected governor of an organization called District 4L4 which is made up of lions clubs members who wish to participate.  Although the district is independent from the local lions clubs, District 4L4 and local clubs sometimes team up on projects.  The district also can be a resource for clubs by offering such services as leadership training and strategic planning.  Each year the District Governor selects a theme to motivate members of the district organization, and the district governor spreads the word about the theme selected by the president of the International Association of Lions Clubs.
This year the two themes were cohesive so the district can work well with the international organization.  Governor Casteel announced that the theme of the international organization is “Follow your Dream.”  This will be reflected in the Rose Parade Float they sponsor which will show a park for disabled children.  The District’s theme this year is “Make the World a Better Place,” and this is symbolized by the human hand.  District organization members had scarfs and neck ties with images of hands on them to illustrate the point.  The district is continuing it’s county wide programs to help out with Literacy for children and adults, tree planting to provide oxygen for county residents, and “PJ Party” to provide sleeping and under garments for children who have been placed in foster care.
Governor Casteel also discussed LICF a charitable giving organization associated with the International Association of Lions Clubs.  She said that 100% of the money donated to the organization is used directly for charitable programs, and that dues paid by lions are used to pay for overhead and administrative expenses.  The District 4L4 organization donates a great deal to LICF in comparison with other district organizations in our local region.
